When we focus on small and simple things that bring us joy and happiness it helps us with our overall well-being.
In these stressful times, we all can use a little extra joy and happiness in our day-to-day lives and focus on them more.
Today let’s see some of the simplest little things that you can do to bring happiness and joy to your day-to-day life.
1. Practice Gratitude
Appreciating little things in your life helps shift your focus from worries and concerns and makes you more aware of the things that you are grateful for.
When you are upset, feeling down or even overwhelmed just reach out for little things that will instantly bring a smile to your face.
Appreciate those little things, those little moments that will bring you joy.
2. Be A Kid Again
Remember how carefree we all used to be when we were kids!
Be that kid for sometime, this will instantly lighten your mood, raise your spirit, and be carefree and playful.
Do silly things, get wet in the rain, run on the grass, get your hands dirty in soil, play on the sand, and dance like no one is watching you.
Doing this playful carefree things feels incredible and will boost your energy, and bring joy and a big smile on your face. You will get that little glimpse of what’s it’s like to be a carefree kid again.
3. Plan Something Exciting To Look Forward To
This simple planning doesn’t have to be something huge or big like a trip or purchase or throwing a party.
Something just as small as planning an outing this weekend or planning to go on a dinner date with your partner or just an peaceful evening by the beach.
Have something that when you think about it gets you excited and makes you happy.
Just the anticipation of planning something small and looking out for is more than enough to bring joy in you life.
You can make weekly, monthly or yearly plans that make you excited to look forward to that event.
4. Celebrate Little / Small Wins
Little wins every single day or every other day boost your self-esteem.
Set some mini goals for yourself and try to achieve them. Once accomplished, pat yourself on your back and celebrate that wins along the way. By doing so, you will realize where you are and where you want to be.
For example, I had a cluttered drawer and I always procrastinated to organize the same. This might not look like a big goal to organize that small tini tiny drawer but that clutter has always bothered me, taking my precious real estate space and have affected me psychologically. But once I decluttered it, it took away that mental block and it felt so nice.
For me, that one small drawer, that one small step was a win for myself.
It’s so easy to overlook these little things that you accomplish and are your tiny wins. But when you reach your destination it feels exciting and you feel happy that you made it.
These small tiny wins along the way are definitely something that you need to celebrate as the reality is these little things adds up over time and bring joy to your everyday life.
Also, don’t forget to reward yourself after these small wins.

5. Surround Yourself With Belongings That Spark Joy
Surround yourself with the things that make you happy, belongings that bring you joy that actually means something special to you.
It can be a picture frame, a diary, a plant which was given to you by someone special or a book that brings a smile to your face.
It’s such a unique approach to know how much joy some of our belongings can bring us.
Usually, we see ourselves surrounded by so much clutter, so much stuff that keeps piling up that we rarely distinguished which items are really worth it and which are not.
Once you surround yourself with the thing that brings you joy, donate the excess. Have belongings/possessions around you which put a smile on your face. Things that make you feel good are the things you need to surround yourself with.
6. Get Dressed
Nowadays many of us work from home and may not have any reason to dress up for work.
But just once in a while, put on your favourite dress, put on some minimal makeup, tie your hair properly, and wear your favourite jewellery piece cause it’s going to lift up your spirit and put you in a good mood.
Wear something comfy that makes you feel good and a little bit ready for the day. Getting ready even though you are working from home can make a huge difference in how to feel.
Just do it for yourself.
7. Connect Yourself With Mother Nature
Go out and immerse yourself in nature. Gaze at the star in the dark sky, watch the sunset by the beach or by the mountains, hear the birds chirping, walk through a forest, and visit a waterfall.
The endless beauty of nature has such a calming and soothing power on all of us. Relish the beauty of nature that it offers and take time to find joy in it.
Personally, I love to walk on the beach bare feet, hear the sound of waves hitting the land and the wind gushing.
Nothing brings me more joy than this.
8. Laughter Is The Best Medicine
Laughter has proven to have positive effects on our overall health. Watching a comedy movie or television show not only reduces stress and anxiety by it improves your mood too.
Apart from watching movies or tv shows, hang out with people who make laugh and make you feel good.
For me, whenever I am depressed or feeling down, I always have my go-to favourite shows on Netflix which are easygoing and make me laugh my stomach out.
9. Connect With The Hobbies You Enjoy
Do hobbies that you enjoy the most. Maybe there are hobbies that you might have forgotten or hardly ever indulge in.
Hobbies are wonderful ways that bring us genuine joy and happiness at that very moment.
Hobbies are therapeutic. They allow you to focus on the things that you truly love. Indulging in your favourite hobby makes you relax and at peace. It’s like meditation for the soul.
I personally love to read books and cook new recipes. It feels nice to be able to accomplish something which is tasty and loved by everyone.
10. Appreciate little things
We generally overlook little things that make us feel happy even in our day-to-day life.
Life has become so much busy that we do not appreciate little things and tend to ignore them as they seem to be just a part of our life.
Just take a moment to appreciate things around you, the people around you. Be mindful.
11. Focus on yourself
In this digital world of ours, we are bombarded with so much social media content that sometimes it makes a huge negative impact on us.
Being human beings we all have a tendency to compare ourselves with others which just steals all our joy.
When we compare ourselves with others we are focusing more on other people than ourselves. Here you need to make a conscious effort to focus on yourself instead of getting sucked into other people’s life over the internet.
Understand what you really want in your life instead of focusing on the life of the people you barely know.
Focus on yourself, focus on your life and never compare yourself to others. As they say, comparison is the thief of joy. So be you!
These are some of the small little ways I have found joy and happiness in simple things.
