We all have been in a situation where we often feel bored and instead of spending time in a meaningful way we end up mindlessly scrolling through social media or watching television.
I have gone through these boredom activities and I must say, it’s not a good feeling. It makes me more frustrated.
Recently, I have found myself indulging and occupying my time in some sort of meaningful activities and hardly find myself getting bored.
I have realised that the more I am away from my phone and TV screen and indulging in these meaningful tasks brings a sense of joy and helps me relax.
No wonder, I still check my phone and watch my favourite shows on Netflix which is not a bad thing at all. But I am trying to avoid them as much as I can and spend my time in a joyful and meaningful way.
First, let’s understand what is boredom.
Doing repetitive, uninteresting & unchallenging tasks are the three main reasons why we go into boredom.
Boredom can creep in during periods of inactivity when things don’t feel challenging, or when there’s a lack of excitement. Even our day-to-day routine can become boring because it’s repetitive and does not bring us any joy as such.
Boredom often happens when our minds aren’t fully interested in what we are doing and this can leave us feeling unmotivated and dissatisfied.
Boredom is subjective. It’s different for each person. What one person considers boring might not be the same for others.
So how can you beat boredom?
The first step is to accept that we are bored instead of trying to escape it by hopping onto Instagram, Facebook or YouTube.
Boredom happens when our minds are empty and searching for something meaningful to fill that emptiness.
To truly understand boredom and overcome it, we need to take a moment to recognize it and allow ourselves to experience boredom in the first place.
Here is a list of 20 fun and interesting things that I have been enjoying lately when boredom strikes ME.
I am sure that you will also love to indulge in these activities that are fun and exciting to do instead of spending time on your mobile or Netflix.

Let’s begin…..
1. Evaluate Your Goals
Take a close look at the things you want to accomplish and review how much you could complete.
Reviewing goals is a crucial approach to access your achievements.
Write down the goals that you had set for yourself. Analyse how much you have achieved so far and what still needs work.
Concentrate on areas where you could do better. Also, acknowledge the things that have been accomplished.
Review your goals at regular intervals throughout the year that is say monthly or quarterly. This helps you to stay on track and make necessary changes as you move forward.
2. Create A Vision Board
Be creative, make a vision board that will visually represent your goals.
You can either make a digital vision board or an old-school manual one in your journal or stick onto a wall. For me making vision boards in my journal brings out my most creative side.
3. Learn Something New
Indulge in different skills or topics that you have never ventured into earlier but have a passion for learning.
Simple things like learning to cook a new recipe, learning a new language, and learning gardening are some of the mindful activities that will help us overcome boredom.
4. Read A Book
This is one of my personal favourites this year.
Dive into some amazing self-help books that help us to be a better version of ourselves.

Journalling I believe has enormous benefits for one’s self-development and well-being.
Journalling has helped me achieve clarity and reduced my stress by allowing me to pen down my emotions and troubles.
Journalling is also known to increase mindfulness as it requires us to be engaged in our thoughts. Journalling can also be beneficial for self-discovery, productivity and gratitude.
7. Meditate
Practising meditation while focusing on breathing will help you become more self-aware and mindful of your surroundings.
No wonder you will feel refreshed and energetic just after meditating for 15-20 minutes.
8. Cleaning & Decluttering
Activities like cleaning & tidying your room, cleaning your work desk, organizing your closet, deep cleaning your fridge, and decluttering your expired makeup and skincare products are some of the productive activities that can easily be done to overcome boredom and stay away from the screen.
9. Make Lists
I love making lists! You name a thing and I will start making list immediately!
Making a list of things, goals, and activities is fun and helps you to discover new things about yourself.
It’s a cool way to spend your time and is a get to learn more about your preferences, your thoughts and interest.

A simple activity like organizing your pantry, closet, home office, or kitchen can help you boost your mood and get you out of your boredom.
Keeping things organized reduces stress, increases productivity, helps with mental clarity and boosts creativity.
11. Explore New Music
Explore new music of different genres and artists and make a new playlist.
Exploring new music can be an exciting and enriching experience. Listen to songs that have different genres that you have never explored before.
I also often like to tune into radio stations to explore new music.
12. Starting a DIY Project
DIYs are fun! Express your creativity in simple creative activities. Get your creative juices running.
This can be as simple as home décor, repurposing things, painting, making your own jewellery, such as bracelets or necklaces, or crafting personalized photo frames.

Pen down your thoughts and feelings about the things that you enjoy. This activity allows you to reflect on the positive aspects of your life.

Realise how your love for these things has evolved over time and has helped you in your personal growth.
17. Redo Your Room
Redoing your entire room can be one of the most exciting activities.
Consider having a theme for your room whether it should be minimalist, traditional, or modern.

19. Spend Time Outside
Being in nature uplifts our mood and brings a sense of calmness.
Whether you want to take a leisure walk in the nearby park or spend some time on the beach gazing at the sunset.
Spending time outside in nature is one of the most amazing ways to beat boredom.
20. Plan Your Next Vacation
Planning your upcoming vacation is one of the most exciting and delightful activities.
While planning your next vacation make sure you know the goal and purpose of this vacation.
That means, if you are looking for an adventure trip or a cultural exploration or if you are looking for something more relaxing.
Set a realistic budget. Shortlist the destinations. Decide how long you are going to go on your vacation.
Outline a rough itinerary for your trip and do some research on booking tickets and hotel reservations.
So these are few things I have started to do to get out of boredom and be as productive as possible.
Not only these activities boost my mood but also gives me a satisfaction of learning new things, exploring my potential and keeping me sane.
